Overclocking a Barton 333 FSB to 400 FSB

Do i need a water cooling system to achieve this, or will a nicely cooled system be plenty? Before i get the money for the water system, I just want to make sure that i couldn't have gotten away with a good heat sync and leave the water system for my new cpu to be built soon.

No. Hell, all you really need is a XP-90 or (a bit overkill) a SI-120. Both are made by thermalright.

The SI-120 is a better cooler. its only about $15 more....i think its a better buy because it can go to other systems down he road too.

if you get an SI-120 you will have it for a longtime.

Ok, with the stock settings of 333 fsb, i'm running at
CPU 35.5*C
PWM 36.5 I don't know exactly what this is...
SYS 33.5
The Cpu never goes over 38, at least that i've seen.
My abit board doesn't have any multiplier adjustment, so i can only jump up to the 400 mhz. This will mean it is running at 3200+ levels (2.2GHZ) up from 1.8 (2500+). A 400mhz jump!!! That's nuts! Is it safe? I have everything to support it, i just want to know if i'm good to go. Oh, and i have a pretty good heatpipe heatsink... although, it's not a thermalright... sorry guys, couldn't spend it!! I do have a few other fans i could throw in there though, if needed. What's the most I should let it run at overclocked. Also, I was going to do this through the bios, which only lets the 333 to 400 jump. Would i be better with the Nvidia software which lets me bump by one or two increments?

AIr cooling can be just as effective as water cooling, take a nice big pedestal fan and substitute it for your side panel and then remove the other panel(And maybe the top too.), it works like a charm.

Yeah, except it's all tucked way back in a corner desk with about 2 inches on the side, which is where i run a lot of my wires. Not a whole lot of room until i move into the new house in april. Besides, I have to make it look good or the wifie will flip. She likes the light up stuff, which is cool, lol

Just wanted to let you know I have a 2500+ running at 400. It is in a small case with 2 80mm fans and a Vantec Aeroflow heatsink. It runs a little warm about 45C. No problems at all going to 400. Even had it at 420 but that took a voltage increase and even more heat. If you have pc3200 RAM I would try for 400. If it will not boot start going down by one or two MHz steps. When it boots to windows run 3dmark or prime95 to test stability. Have Fun.

I guess i'm not THAT bad. I'm definatly thinking of one of those power supplies where you only connect what you need though. Might be worth it. Although, i have a lot of other supplies laying around too, so who knows...

My barton 2800+ (2.08GHz) is now running happy at 2.5GHz, so it can be done... I got a nice Thermaltake SI-97a that reduced the core temp by 27 deg c so I feel safe...

A 2500 will [probably] do it if vcore raised up to 1.75 or so. If your ram is 400mh it should'nt be a factor. My father in laws system I just built [ my old unlocked 2500 in a msi delta2] when set to 200 fsb lowers the multipliers to 9 . I just raise them up to 10 and run it at 2gh[ would go higher but he's not that good with stuff like that]. Most barton cores will do over 2.2 if temps and psu are good. good luck.
