Hi guys :). Thanks for your help on building my new pc, its almost done. Just have one more question. Whats the best mobo for oc an i5-6400? My budget for it is 150 dlls. Thanks

Solution

Some of the boards will let you OC some, others will not depends on the motherboard that you did not list.
Can't list any specific board I know some of them have changed so you can't Intel put a lot of pressure on them. They wish to sell you the K series for overclocking not let you spend less and get the same results.
You need an -K (unlocked) CPU like the 6600k to overclock. Well, you could overclock non -k CPUs with certain Z170 motherboards and specific (older) BIOSes at one point. But new motherboards purchased these days might not be able to be flashed back to an older BIOS like that. So for the sake of simplicity I'm going to say you can't overclock that CPU.

Don't listen to TJ. It's easy. I bought a brand new motherboard (ASROCK Z170 X1) and overclocked the i5-6400 (Skylake) on the bios that it came with to 4.0Ghz (on a corsair water cooling kit). It's incredibly easy to do so using BCLK, and didn't get chumped out of money by buying a k series.]

Congrats on getting a mobo with the right BIOS for non K OC. But just because you got one doesn't mean that everyone else will. I suppose if the OP wants to spend a little extra on a Z170 board in the hopes that he may be able to overclock he can, but there's no guarantee it'll work.

I built i3-6100 on MSI Z170M last year and had good OC success. With MSI boards a BIOS flash tool exists that allow you flash any version of BIOS you want. Asrock boards are also fringe OC friendly.
