Question Overclocking a locked Intel CPU (i7-8700) ?

THANK YOU!

Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU: intel i7-8700
CPU cooler: Stock cooler (Fan)
Motherboard: HP83H1 (Version: KBC 07.D2.00)
Ram: 48 Gigs
SSD/HDD: 1 SSD (SATA) / 1 HDD
GPU: Intel UHD 630
PSU: 250W (HP Standard)
Chassis: HP EliteDesk 800 G4 SFF
OS: Windows 11
Monitor: (2) Dell S2719DM / ASUS MX239
BIOS version for your motherboard? HP Q01 Ver. 02.23.00, 3/28/2023

This is a standard pre-built system

I previously benchmarked my settings in XTU and came in at 5.5 GHz (on a processor supposedly maxing out at 4.6), obviously this is NOT sustained speeds - XTU only allows for Turbo Boost tuning with the i7-8700 processor.

No, it is not possible. You found a bug in XTU. The i7-8700 has a locked maximum multiplier. It is physically impossible for it to run at 10 GHz.
That is what I was thinking also - last night I ran CPUID HWMonitor simultaneously with XTU and the numbers did not match. Oh well, I guess mystery solved! I'll be getting a i7-8700k hopefully soon with some other upgrades (better ram) Nvidia GPU, gonna do a little case modification for ventilation (cause the SFF case has NONE lol)

IMHO, you should revert to stock clocks as you're going beyond spec for what the prebuilt as designed for.
I'm not really sure it effectually did anything 😉 - I'll wait for the new processor to arrive and then tinker around with that when it's all installed and ready to go.
