Hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to over clock the i5 7500
and is there a specific Z270 chipset board to overclock a non-K CPU or can i use any z270

Do you guys suggest overclocking a non-K CPU?

,Thanks

You cannot overclock a non-K processor. Previously with Skylake there were some boards that could do BCLK overclocking, but Intel moved to block that and new BIOS versions stopped it. With Kabylake you simply can't do it.

I don't believe it is possible. At least not yet. Overclocking the last gen required a special modified BIOS. I'm sure Intel closed that loophole.

If you want to overclock on the cheap and are willing to wait. Then wait for the AMD Ryzen R5 series due before this summer. The R5 series is 4 Core and 8 thread and are expected to range from $165 to $199, depending on the model. If performance lives up to the hype. You can potentially get Core i7-6700k/7700K level performance for the price of a low end i5.
