Hello people of Tom's Hardware,

I need some help regarding overclocking my AMD A10-5700. So recently, I've been gaming alright until recently when I made the decision to step it up and get myself an R9 380. I am a little wary about some bottle-necking from my APU so I think overclocking it would take most of it out. Unfortunately, it's not a processor with an unlocked multiplier so I know it will be more difficult and probably more risky, but I want to know what my options are. So if there is anyone out there who has successfully achieved an overclock on the APU, please give me a detailed guide on how to do it and if it is worth the risk.

Thanks community!

Spending $150 on a 100i would be an absolute waste of money.
For that you could get a new board (if yours isn't fm2+) ,an 860k AND a decent tower cooler.

You only really need a decent 92mm cooler to overclock 95w and chips .

Overclocking a locked chip is totally reliant innupping the fsb ratio - you may drag 2-300mhz it so but that's likely the limit - this will also be at the expense of lowering ram speeds slightly.
Any kind of reliability will be reliant on the quality of your motherboard which you haven't mentioned.

I could get something like a GTX H100i or whatever as long as under $150-ish, BTW, I had a discussion about the bottleneck elsewhere and people claimed how an Athlon x4 860k didn't even bottleneck it. I'm avoiding building a new PC, but if it's my only choice....

Alright, understood, but I think I'll just save a bit and spring for this build. PCPartPicker Link (Will be borrowing the RAM and storage from old rig)
