MSI GTX 970
AMD FX 4350 3.8 GHz
8 GB RAM
Stock Cooler

It's my first time attempting to overclock my CPU and I have no idea what I'm doing. I am just looking to get about 200 or 300 MHz from this overclock. After seeing how bad my computer runs GTA V this was the only solution I could think of. If possible I would like to know how I would go about overclocking my CPU or, if it's even possible.

Solution
You can try overclocking, but be careful.
Are you willing to do one of these?
1. Are you willing to run the stock heatsink fan at maximum speed?
2 Do you have extra time to do some mods?

Lapping CPU
If you say yes to one or both of them, then expect 4.4 GHz Base frequency.
First, make sure you are grounded by touching a large metal object frequently. Take out your CPU, get 220, 320, 500, 800, 1000/1500 grit sandpaper and start sanding from 220.
Use the 220 and sand the surface of the FX 4350 on a flat surface (your floor, a glass table etc) until the entire CPU surface is copper coloured. Then sand using the 320 in a 45° manner until the 220 lines are gone, then repeat for the rest of the sandpapers until a mirror finish.

Cooling...

I have an MSI 760GMA-P34(FX)
It came with the pre built computer.
I just added a GTX 970 and a 600 watt PSU

Your CPU has 4.2 Ghz and 125 W tdp, the manufacturer has already overclocked it, you can overclock 95 W cpu's on that mobo but not 125 W. Anyway you need a good cooler with 120 mm fan

I only have 3.8 GHz. It came without an overclock. But If i were to get a new mobo and cooler what do you recommend?

Are you sure? FX 4300 has 3.8 Ghz base. FX 4350 frequency 4.2/4.3GHZ (Base/Overdrive). Mobos for overclocking: Gigabyte "GA-970A-DS3P/UD3P" or ASUS "M5A97 R2.0". And any cooler with 120 mm fan and 3 or 4 copper heatpipes. But you can buy fx 6300 or higher (MSI 760GMA-P34(FX) supports up to 8370) without changing motherboard. You'll get better performance without overclocking

Cooling VRMs (very important)
Get 2 80mm fans and some zipties and ziptie them to the left of the CPU (opposite the RAM modules) and under the CPU (above the GPUs) these will cool the VRMs and Northbridge. Ziptie them to the case.

Try 1.4V, 200 FSB, 22.0 multiplier.
You should be okay with these temps on stock cooler. 1.4V is maximum I recommend for stock cooler.

Dont forget to disable Turbo, APM, C1E, HPC.
