Overclocking AMD FX 6300

I'm a complete newb to overclocking. I went into my bios and set my multiplier to 20.5x and disabled a bunch of stuff that kept making my speeds throttle. I apply and my pc restarts then my screen stays black. I reset my pc and log in and run prime95 and still have my default clock speeds 3.5Ghz. I'm trying to hit 4.1Ghz, but it seems that my settings don't apply?

What is your CPU cooler? A stock one will throttle if you are overclocking, even not overclocking FX chips can throttle on the stock cooler.

DO NOT overclock on that motherboard, it is BARELY capable of running your CPU at stock speeds.

If you want this for gaming, an I5 makes more sense without costing you an arm and a leg.

Why i7 when i5 is best think for gaming??Rest of money you save from going to i5 you can get better GPU if you plan to change it and after market cooler if you get K version of cpu so you can overclock.
