I want to do a little overclock on my FX 8300 chip using the stock cooler. I ran AIDA64 for 10 minutes and my CPU never exceeded 40 degrees C. And at idle I am around 15-18c. What would be recommended to overclock to from 3.3 GHz? Actually, my CPU turboed to 3.6 while stress testing so maybe the 40 degrees was my CPU at 3.6 GHz. Also I am using AMD Overdrive. What could I overclock my CPU to?

It can vary a decent amount on how far you can overclock, but I would up the overclock about .2 GHz each time, and if it crashes up the voltage, until you reach about 60 C while testing. Searching around, it looks like that processor begins to thermal throttle at 70 C so just stay below that while you overclock.

I don't want to go to high with this stock cooler. Just a little faster before I purchase an aftermarket. I just got it up to 3.8 with the turbo and it seems to be running fine so far. But when I run AIDA64 all of my cores are running different speeds from 3.2-3.8 GHz and fluctuating rapidly. Is this something to be worried about? Because when I am just using AMD Overdrive they are all at 3.8 GHz stable.

I just got it 4.0 GHz and my temps are still in the 40s. I have only been doing quick 10m stress test but my temps seem to stay the same after about 6 minutes in. I haven't even had to up the voltage yet. According to CPUID HWMonitor my max voltage intake is 1.304 and my turbo voltage is set to 1.325. Is this cutting it close? I plan to do an overnight test tonight. What stress testing software do you recommend? Also, my turbo clock is also being used while my computer is idle. Is that something to worry about?

I'm a little scared to go higher because I feel that I will need to up the voltage and I don't want to fry anything. By the way I am only overclocking my turbo. Should I be overclocking my base core clock instead or is it okay to just do the turbo overclock for gaming? Currently I am at 3.3 GHz base clock and 4.0 GHz Turbo. Running a max temp of 47 degrees celsius on stress tests.

Alright I tried upping the base core clock to 4 GHz and started getting really hot temps with Prime95. Strange because when I run Prime95 using 4 GHz on the turbo clock my CPU doesn't get very hot even though it is running at 4 GHz just like my base core clock was. I'm going do an overnight test with Prime95 tonight and if all goes well I'll leave it at this until I get an aftermarket cooler.
