Overclocking AMD X2 240

Now I wanna overclock amd 240 to at least 3.2ghz do you think I could do that with the above built? (that means stock cooler no extra fans)

and if i can what are possible comination of multipier,volrage, etc. do get a stable overclock of 3.2+ghz

In case you aren't aware of the differences between overclocking a locked mulitplier CPU like this one, and a Black Edition chip with an unlocked multiplier, I suggest you do a bit of research on it. There is balancing act involved when you have to use the FSB for all the OC gains, and no two builds will act the same. Trial and error is a big part of learning to do this. Download some temp monitoring programs, read other peoples experiences on it; there is a very large well of information here for anyone willing to learn.

That being said, the only part of the rig that I would be concerned about is the memory, and would probably look for a quality 1066mhz pair. You may not have any issues getting to 3.2ghz, as by my math, you would only need a FSB of about 229 to get to 3.2ghz, which would result in memory being 4.00x@916mhz, 3.33@763mhz, and it may not be able to take it. It also may work just fine, but that is a process you will have to go through.

Oops, I've only built one rig apart from this one and it included a black edidiotn cpu so I assumed all cpus got their multipier unlocked, my bad. So im assuming ill just have to play with FSB and the voltage and monitor my temps as I go along. I dont want to overclock starigh in the BIOS, so do you think AMD overdrive will work or some other software. ATM this built is at 298pounds and I dont want to go over 300 so ill stick with the memory iv chosen, and are you saying kingston is not a quality company?

From what you have written I unsderstand that changing FSB to get a higher ghz also results in the memory being affected?

Having said that, my question is, apart from everything else, will the mobo i listed be decent enough for me to oc my processor, I know that some chipsets are better than others when it comes to ooc'ing ur cpu.

Kingston sells ram that works. That the ram you have chosen will be good for OCing, I couldn't tell you, but it appears to be on the cheaper side, and thats what set off my alarm bells.

Chipsets don't effect OC as much as the maker of the motherboard, in my experience.

my 240 will run at 3.2 without changing anything but the fsb, 229 puts mine at 3.2. Runs on stock voltage fine. But like said above that is my system doesn't mean yours will work the same. You could drop your memory back one step in the bios if you wanted. That would make memory slightly underclocked instead of overclocked.

I have 4 gigs of PNY 6400 memory and it runs fine though. Then again it could die next week. You never know.
