Question Overclocking an old cpu

Hi, i want to overclock my younger brother pc, but i can't get more than 2.8 GHz.

Specs:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66 GHz
8 GB ram 800mhz
Asus P5B-V
RX 550 4 gb
Windows 10
DeepCool cooler
Crossair VS550

I tried a lot of things, i changed the votages and same result. Black screen and fan speed changing from 1% to 100%.
If i change the frecvency different from 2.66 or 2.8 same result.
I want to get a decent 3 GHz or 3.2 GHz overclock, and please don't ask why i stiil have these old pc.

I'm new to overclocking comunity.

2.8ghz may be all you can get out of that cpu, but it could be your motherboard holding you back.

While the CPU should be able to hit that 3.2-3.4 GHz point the Conroe Quads easily reach, the G965 chipset might be an issue.
While there are FSB "walls" and "holes", running at 333 (x9 for 3.0 GHz or x10 for 3.33 GHz) FSB might bring the board into the next strap and be stable again.

About the rest, set everything from "auto" to "normal" when available.
VCore should run fine with the default for those settings, maybe a lottle bump to around 1.36-1.4v
Up to 1.5v should be safe in the long run.
default for DDR2 is 1.8v
PCIe runs at 100 MHz (although increasing it to 101-104 is sometimes more stable and gives more OC headroom on lower boards)
VTT/FSB Termination to 1.4v
PLL 1.2v
NB around 1.4-1.5v

Same problem, black screen. What chipset do you recomand for OC a 775 processor, preferably with ddr3.

You need to drop your DRAM frequency to open up headroom for the CPU.
