Overclocking Athlon 64 X2 5000+

First of all I am a complete noob to overclocking. I know a decent amount about computers in general, but not nearly as much as people on this site.

I have the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (with the Brisbane cores here), and it is with this mobo. I am cooling the CPU with this HSF.

I was wondering if it is possible to overclock with this mobo? And if it is, can I bring it up to 3.0 GHz safely?

I was also wondering what the voltage on the memory does? My voltage is set at 1.90 (DDR2-800, PC6400), and the BIOS says upping the voltage is not recommended for long periods of time as it can cause instability? I have 2 x 2GB of memory, btw.

Im in the same situation as you Stitch, I also have the AMD athlon 64 x2 5000+ personally I am satisfied with the cpu compared to what i once had (Pentium 4 2.66ghz socket 775) and also am a noobie when it comes to overclocking, If anyone knows a thing or two about this particular processor please let me know I think 3.0Ghz is a reasonable jump. 3.0 Ghz is def. possible, i would not take the vcore .25v higher than the normal voltage but change the multiplier or fsb until it becomes unstable and thats .25 not .025 you can add and subtract in increments of .025.

its all a matter of trial and error.

try taking the multiplier up 1.0x at a time until unstable then take up the voltage if desired and rinse and repeat.

I was more referring to the mobo then to the CPU. There are no options in my mobo for upping the FSB or the multiplier. Is it generally a bad idea to OC in windows?
