This thread is corresponding to my thread about my new system

http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/Introducing-AM2-buy-Octo30-ftopict206192.html

I will buy

Mainboard:
Asus M2N-E AM2 nForce 570 Ultra FSB 1000MHz PCIe ATX

CPU:
AMD Athlon64 3500+ 2200MHz 512kB 62W AM2

Heatsink:
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro (AMD)

RAM:
2x1024MB Corsair DDR2 800MHz PC2-6400 CL5 TWIN2X2048-6400

Graphics:
256MB Sapphire Radeon X1900GT DDR3

Harddisk:
250GB Seagate ST3250820AS Barracuda 7200.10 sATA II 8MB

My CPU is kind of slow, but I couldn't go to C2D without buying cheaper other components and I need my PC now.
Since I am better with money next year I thought of overclocking my CPU to the limit and buying a better CPU end of next year (hopefully a next generation AMD).
I have read some things about overclocking and will surely do so before trying it but I am essentially new to OCing, never done that before.

What is your experience regarding OCing a 3500+ and what can you say regarding my combination of components?

PS.: I have to add, that although my PSU is a good Enermax it is only 350W and 3 years old, could that become a problem?

i have the same amd 3500+ processor i have push the processor speed up by 100mhz and with accurate temprature monitoring software i watched the temprature jump from a steady 26 c 35 c in seconds it is,nt wise to increase the temprature beyond the manufactures normal speed

but if you have really good cooling then the best programme to use is {clockgen} it is very good software for changeing speeds very gradually and i also surgest a programme called {core temp version 0.99.4} it is a good accurate peace of software for cpu temprature the other peace of software that is also good which monitors all of the tempratures in the hole machine is {hardware sensors monitor 4.4} it monitors mainboard temp and cpu, psu, cpu core temp and also graphics card tempratures too also nearly forgot cpu fan speeds

if you need any information on these programmes email me at

shiftstealth i know what i am talking about i have been building computers for 11 years overclocked to some extent but to deaster so grow up overclocking is a bad idea for what you get out of it you may get some better improvements but at a cost to possible damage to your system and over heating my spelling might not be great and my wording is brilliant but i have been making programmes in c++ for the last 5 years and i know what the limits are on most systems
