Hey there,

I am not really used to post on forums so I apologize if it comes out kind of odd 😛.

My PC seems to shut down when I overclock it anytime to any ghz it doesn't really matter which, you probably see something I don't see.

What I did until now:

Disabled speedsteep tech.

Disabled CPU spectrum.

Voltage to 1.45

Bus to 125

Multiplier 37 I !think! can't be sure but it happened a lot around even around 4.5ghz sometimes I left it on auto though just to try.

sometimes even tried to overclock ram.

My processor is I7 3820

Ram 16 GB 1600 mhz

SLI 680 gtx

AX 1200

I never really went to forums but now I want to start overclocking and get more into the community and the hardware world so that's a good place to start I suppose.

Some more details: on prime 95 I passed through one hour of 4.7 ghz with the details above on 72 Celsius top 100% CPU usage.

I am using H100i as a liquid cooler on maximum settings I really don't understand what's going on.

I'll explain a little further - when I boot the pc it turns on for some seconds and then shuts down like it doesn't have enough voltage no screen display either.
Second time same thing.

Third time it's all fine until it shows either:

Overclocking failed and then I change stuff.

Or it turns on and of course after the first time I overclocked to 4.7 ghz I thought everything was fine because the stress test was fine and I didn't shut down my PC so some hours laters a blue screen turned up.

Some more details :

Thermaltake level 10 GT - fan level almost always set on high.

RoG X79

Best regards and thank you for all your assistance :)

I got your problem
Even after using Thermal cooling at Maximum settings your CPU temperature was 70C. It was running fine for some hours on 4.7Ghz and then Blue screen appears that's because even after it was stable at that configuration as you said but the temperature was going too high after some hour due to which your PC was shutting down.
There is an option in BIOS for Cutoff Temperature after which PC should shutdown usually by default it is set to 80C. I don't suggest you to increase the Cutoff temperature because then you will be able to cook food on your system 😀 I mean everything will be burn inside.
You directly jumped off to 4.7Ghz you have to OC with small values and have to check stability also by playing games at least for two hours. I suggest you to please decrease your CPU frequency. Turbo Boost is more safer to use because that software determines the stability of the CPU and runs at higher frequency when required.
Welcome to the forums :)

Thanks Darshit,

very appreciated, so basically I have to take it slower it has a heart after all hehe ^^

going to go to 4.3 GHZ. 1 hour prime 95 then some hours Crysis 3 should be fine to increase it to 4.5 and so on right?

And my PC shuts down max temp on 90C , however, without 100% usage it's 40C.

Don't you think it can be the LLC or something like that?I am not sure what it is but I read it's something like the drop voltages betwen the offset to the vcore?

Best regards,

Roy :)

Okay If you think It can be because of Vcore, I have a trick play your game Crysis 3 1-2 Hour then using a little program TemperatureMonitor or If you have any program to see the temperature of CPU and GPU check the temperature by minimizing the game not by closing it. If it exceeds 70C then it shuts down because of Cutoff Shutdown Temperature :) Sorry mate it has heart after all then you have to decrease the frequency ya 4.5Ghz should be fine if not then 🙁 try 4.4 Ghz don't need to go more low:)

If the temperature when minimizing the game is below 60C or 50C then there can be issue with the core voltage listen it should not exceed at all above 1.4v just increase the voltage with some mv .020 or .030v it will do the work :)

You Can now mate close this thread If you got the solution. And yes if it is around 50 C then after some time it can jump off the Cutoff Temperature. Is it shutting down till now ? :)

Closing.

- By the way now it's failing to boot 2-3 times before it goes smooth boot other than that it's all smooth if you have any idea why please pm me thanks a lot

Okay No problem mate :)

And yes for booting 2-3 times there can be many reasons for it
May be there is a failure in detecting device and it every times boot to detect hard disk.
There can be Windows Boot problem.
Tell me at which place it is restarting
When your PC just start at that time or it restart at the time Windows is booting.
This information is important for further help and if the second one is the problem are you getting any Blue Screen?

Have a nice day.
