Hi there guys,

I wanna ask maybe a silly question for you, pros. Is overclocking CPU using XMP Profile is possible? What are the constraints? I watched JayzTwoCents video and I've been wondering, can I do the same with G4400 on ASRock H110M-HDV with 2400MHz or faster RAM? Can I do that XMP overclocking stuff? Is it possible only for higher chipset? or only for unlocked CPU? (I think Jay is using X99 with i7 X)

Thank you guys in advance!!

As long as i concern, Yes it is.

But, if you watched Jays video, his CPU clock is increased from 3.00 GHz to 3.75 GHz when using the XMP Profile, which enabling him to get 3000MHz from his RAM (from 2133MHz default). He also said that the base clock was increased, from 100 MHz into 125 MHz ..........

I am confused as well .....

in case you didn't recognize the youtube link, here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4RKTFTzLqY
better safe than sorry ..

Isn't it the Intel Turbo Boost feature?

Yes, but the advertised turbo is 4.4 ghz on 1 core, 4.3 on 2 cores, 4.2 on 3 cores and 4.1 on all 4. Yet mine turbo's to 4.4 across all cores.

Wow .... 400MHz improvement .... what is your RAM speed? are you using z97 Mobo?

TBH, im not sure if u are being sarcastic, but to answer the questions: 1600mhz 16GB DDR3 , MSI Z97 Gaming 5

What are your xmp settings? Let's say I wanna push my turbo boost to 4.6 ghz. So you're saying that it should push:

4,6 = 1 core
4,5 = 2 cores
4,4 = 3 cores
4,3 = 4 cores

I can't believe I didn't know that.

Don't look towards me for this, i'm still not sure if its the XMP that's causing this turbo on all cores.

Sorry, to clear up, I'm not being sarcastic ..... and nice setup btw.

I believe the default RAM speed for Z97 is 1333MHz. It means that by using 1600MHz RAM and enabling XMP (267MHz increase) you get 400MHz increase for each of your core .... that is amazing. absolutely amazing.

now, i really am getting more curious. if you put 2400MHz RAM, that would likely be a MASSIVE increase of CPU clock speed, wouldn't it? right?? or maybe not ... :(

now, i'm jealous of your setup. hahahahaha.
1. i don't have a lot of money
2. price of desktop peripherals in my country (Indonesia) are much more expensive than US, Canada, and UK. it's about 30-40% more. (for example, "console killer" budget build that usually goes around $500 in US, Canada, UK, will be like $600-650 here in Indonesia after converting the currency)

so, if anyone know more about XMP, please help me. Does it only work on Unlocked CPU (K / X-series) and/or Z / X-series Mobo ? Anyone tried on locked CPU? with H / B-series Mobo?

Linus Tech Tips made a video a while back about overclocking on non K cpu's.
So let me get this straight, by overclocking your ram, you are overclocking your CPU? I mean, I had no idea about any of this.
