Hi All,

I have an old dell precision t7500 workstation that I use on a daily basis for cad, analysis matlab etc. it does the job fine.

I would like to look into modding it and installing a water-cooling system and overclocking the CPU's (2x xeon X5570) i know they can run way faster in other systems but maybe not possible on the dell mobo.

has anyone ever heard of a custom bios overclock or other solution to get round dell's lack of overclocking capabilities. or any ideas? what do you reckon? (solutions and discussion welcome.)

P.S.
This site says they have some intel turbo boost 1.0 crap but I cannot find any much more info on it and is prob just marketing jargon but the newer version of this I have seen on a friends i7 seems decent. Is there any way of monitoring what this turbo boost is doing?

ok, thanks for the link, intresting read. maybe it is not possible at all but it is just this page: http://hwbot.org/hardware/processor/xeon_x5570/
lead me to think that several people have overclocked this cpu but i guess this is on a different mobo.

is there normally any way round a locked mobo? not just this one in particular.

Human is very intelligent, and it should be the way round for the locked MB if someone wants it to. For example, they can use the software to oc the cpu on the locked MB even in the laptop, modified the cpu pins, etc. but I don't recommend it, except you don't care about that pc/laptop, because you know what happened when thing is going wrong.
