I have read a few other posts about overclocking on the Asus P5Q Pro, but so far none on the E8400 with a stock cooler. I'm running:

-Asus P5Q Pro (stock cooler for now)
-E8400
-4gigs Corsair DDR2 800

My last motherboard, Gigabyte 965P-DQ6, seemed much easier to overclock than this one, with all of it's options i feel a bit confused.

How can i take this processor to 3.6~ghz without increasing the core voltage? If successful, i will probably buy an aftermarket cooler and take it to the max, voltage and all.

Thanks.

Read the guide, basically in the bios, up the fsb to 400, make sure ClE and speedstep is disable, leave everything else on auto and then check temps and run prime95 small ffts (10 to 12 hrs) to check cpu stability. Disable pci-e spectrum and the other spectrum (don't remember what it is called)

Did either of you two have to flash the bios to get the e8400 to be recognized properly or to get the board to function "well" or was it good to go out of the box??? I'm thinking of getting this board with an E8400 and the following for ram: Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 2.0GB PC2-6400 DDR2 Kit. I really don't want to have to get into flashing the bios if i don't have to...

Depends, what latency your ram is richardscott. If he has cas4 rated at 1.8v he should be able to OC way higher than just 3.6.
