I am looking into getting a MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G GeForce My only question is can i leave it overclocked for a long period of time (2-8 hours) without causing damage to the GPU or anything else in the system?

Solution
The MSI's have held the cooling / quit crown thru the 7xx and 9xx series. They do things just a bit different than the other guys with regard to PCB cooling that you can read about here:

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2014/09/19/nvidia-geforce-gtx-970-review/1

In addition, nVidia has put so many protections on what vendors can allow you to do with overclocking, both by design / component selection and legally, that it's very, very hard to damage a modern nVidia card

But be responsible, adjust ya settings, test with Furmark..... if Furmark can't overheat ya GPU, nuthin will.
