[SOLVED] Overclocking from base setting wont work

Good morning, I'm having trouble trying to overclock my system.

I currently have

Motherboard- AS Rock B450 Steel Legend , Bios P3.40

CPU- AMD Ryzen 7 2700x Eight core

Graphics card- Ge Force GTX 1660 super

32 Gigabyte Memory, DDR4 28008GB x4

Windows 10 Pro 64

The options for overclocking are
AS Rock utility A Tuning
Onboard through bios

I have increased from base setting of 3700 to 4000 and the computer does not boot, what is the highest i can overclock this system and what is the best way to do it?

You need to increase voltage too.

CPU voltage for OCing CPU, RAM only if you are manually overclocking RAM, they are independent, one doesn't affect the other.

Every system is different and you don’t just plug in a figure that works for everyone. I strongly recommend you Google overclocking guides for your cpu and the motherboard. Read several as people’s opinion on what is safe can be different and you can compare the guides and decide what you are comfortable with. A good overclocking guide is bigger than what someone will post here.

4.6GHz would be almost impossible. With most Ryzen, all core OC is limited to what automatic boost can achieve on one core. So here's your test for homework:
Set auto boost and PBO to maximum, run Ryzen Master or HWinfo64 in the background while running CineBench r20 3 time in a row. Note which is highest frequency it achieves, at which voltage Set that voltage in BIOS and CPU multiplier to what highest frequency was during test or about 100MHz less and try again. Eventually you will find out what gives best results. Highest OC doesn't automatically gives best performance, other things like temperature and power delivery play large role.
With OEM cooler you'd be hard pressed to get 4-4.1 GHz all core OC and have tolerable (80-85c)temperature. For auto boost you need to hold temps down to 62-65c maximum.

Morning, thanks for the reply and i have just run 3 tests
Using PBO and Cinebench

Test 1 was 4.1mhz points 3969
Test 2 was 4.1mhz points 3980
Test 3 was 4.1mhz points 3984

Whilst testing it was most of the time around 3.950mhz
Voltage was highest at 15125 when peaking at 4.1mhz, but usually around 1.3375

so does this mean that i take the highest which was 4.1 or the 3950 which it ran at most of the time?

The memory stayed at 1067, but according to the memory it can go to 3200. Is that correct?

That's probably it. better cooling and faster RAM would bring you better scores. I lost all pictures from when I had 2700x and CB score was just over 4200 but with liquid cooler and 3600MHz RAM.
