Overclocking FX 6100 For Dolphin Emulator

Recently I found out my cpu isn't powerful enough for the dolphin emulator to play super smash brothers melee online through netplay. I want to overclock at least to 3.7 - 3.9ghz to increase my performance and was wondering if that's possible given I have a lower end motherboard. I've seen people go all the way up to 4ghz, and if that is possible for me too I would also like to do that.

My computer specs:
8gb 1066 ram
ati 5770 single slot XFX
amd fx-6100
MSI 970a-g43

Can someone also reccomend a cpu fan I can purchase between $25-50? Currently I am using the stock fan which I know is not ideal for overclocking. Please get back to me guys, thanks.

You can overclock with that motherboard, will not overclock as well as a 990 mobo, but you should be able to achieve that speed, however, dolphin dont like amd cpus. You can get a 212 evo cooler, its cheap and does the job well. You can also disable two cores for easier overclocking.

Every cpu is different, just take it slow. Also, I'd recommend a hyper 212-evo or a corsair h55(if you're willing to spend the extra 10 bucks) for cooling.

I'd look into some tutorials. Overclocking isn't something to play with unless you have the money to pay for new components. Overclocking in the BIOS is the best way to do it, but I've had ok overclocks using software like amd overdrive. I'd look at tutorials on overclocking on your motherboard. If you cannot find tutorials for your motherboard, chances are your motherboard just cannot handle overclocking. Nevertheless, a better cpu cooler will result in a longer lifespan of the cpu and quieter operation.

Also realize that AMD has bad overclock scaling. this means if you get double the clock speed, you might only get 1/4 to 1/8 the performance. I wouldn't overclock for an aftermarket program like dolphin, as it probably will see your cpu at not good enough no matter the clock speed. This is due to some programs recognizing your cpu for its model (fx-6100), and not the specifications 9clock speed, voltage, temperature, etc.)

P.S. AMD cpus that are below the 8000s will barely run anythign on dolphin.
Their official website says, and I quote "AMD: Due to very low IPC, AMD CPUs are poor choices for Dolphin"

I have heard of people overclocking this cpu fine but I have found little information if my motherboard is capable of taking this overclock. Please try to help me any way you can
