Guys i want to overclock my fx 6300 above 4.5ghz .Actually I'm running stable at 4.5ghz but i want to squeeze out more from my fx 6300 cuz i don't plan on getting a new cpu .In bios my cpu clock ratio is from 17.50 to 22.50 and cpu vcore voltage is +0.175.i don't know much about overclocking not an expert. so earlier i got lucky and hit 4.5 stable.i didn't fiddle with ram timings and voltage.not necessary i thought after getting stable. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance

My mobo:gigabyte 970a-ds3p
Memory: Kingston hyperx fury 4*2 1866mhz

If you are stuck with 4.5 GHz, you have 3 options.

1. Change your minimum clock ratio multiplier to 22.50, disable C6, C states, APM and cool and quiet.
This will make your CPU run at full speed, at the expense of idle power consumption.

2. Push voltage to 1.50V (or 1.55V if on water). Absolute max safe voltage is 1.55V, beyond that there may or may not be degradation. Just keep temperatures below 61°C in normal usage. And see how far you can go.

3. Go all out and push voltages like 1.625V I tried it, and till now my CPU still maintains the 5.00 GHz without any BSODs. Your mileage may vary, but I keep my CPU under 61°C even in stress testing for this.
i don't suggest to go any higher with this mobo, maybe you should if you had a 990fx chipset with 8+2 VRMs. 4.5 is a sweet spot for the 6300, i had mine stable at 4.8 ghz with 990fxa chipset and went back to 4.5 for 24/7 without any noticaple difference. At this moment i'm running at 1.4v for 4.5 and multiplier same as yours. Of course disable turbo core, c6 state and AMD cool and quiet and set your power management at windows to "perfomance". Also take a look at your northbridge temp cause it tend to go high, especially on 970 mobos.if you hit near 100 C at your TEMP1 during stress test go below 4.5 ghz. Hope i helped.

hey , thanks for replying.i think i'm stuck with 4.5ghz but i'm good with that too. i just wanna know why do i need to disable turbo core,c6 state and cool and quite and how do i see my nb temp and what is max nb temp?

hey, you have to disable turbo core because it may lead to boosts over your overclock and unstability. When you overclock you want to run at the overclocked frequency max. c6 state and cool and quite may also mess up with your overclock because they are energy saving features. to check your temps you should download a monitoring software such as HwMonitor. Look for cpu temp (max ~65 C for fx 6300 under stress test) and Temp1, temp2, temp3 for your mobo. Usually the highest is Temp1 (northbridge temp) which should be at max near 95 C, maybe less to be sure. For stress testing you can use OCCT or prime95 stress test. At occt enable avx linpack option and let the stress test run for at least 10 mins while monitoring your temps. If you pc freeze during that, try higher cpu voltage or lower multiplier for overclocking.
