Overclocking FX 6300

Can I and how do I overclock my FX-6300 CPU to 4.5ghz with an ASROCK 970 extreme 3 motherboard? I'm new to overclocking and I would like to know.

I know that it is 100% recommended to buy an aftermarket cpu cooler such as the coolermaster 212 evo before I overclock my CPU.

Also, should I overclock my GPU as well? (my GPU is the gigabyte radeon hd 7870) though, I think it's already OC'd as I think I have the OC version?

I will be mainly gaming on my PC with games such as Far Cry 3, BF, etc. I cant run Far Cry 3 on ultra fluently for some reason so maybe Oc'ing will change that and such?

my specs:
cpu: amd fx 6300
ram: 8gb 1600 ddr3 4x8
gpu: gigabyte radeon hd 7870 2gb
mobo: asrock 970 extreme 3

Overclocking will hardly change it really, and it will cause higher temps. If you're running things fine don't change it.

But I really want to run these type of games on ultra fluently. I'm sure my specs should of been able to run far cry 3 on ultra... so it wont change it at all?...
so the best solution would be to buy a new gpu or cpu? ...

Possibly maybe a 5 fps increase. You can just oc it then revert it back if the performance and heat is worth the more fps

It's kind of confusing because I thought my specs on my PC would of handled far cry 3 on ultra easily???

No, I bought it brand new in the box. Though, it may be my CPU or drivers or even both thats the problem?

I downloaded the disc and then I manually went to the amd website and such etc as far as I remember. Just in case, should I do it again?

Do you think you could give me links on where to install drivers for my cpu and gpu? Because i want to make sure i get the right drivers. Also should i download the drivers for my motherboard as well?

thanks. the gpu driver from amd is just the catalyst control centre? thats not really anything is it and i already have it on my PC.. also, the cpu driver please?

oh okay. well so the solution would be to maybe buy a new cpu thats more powerful and maybe get a new psu with more wattage because my psu is 500w 80 plus bronze(which is bad, right?)

i think my gpu is fine though.....7870 should be fine with far cry 3 on ultra......
