Overclocking FX-8320 and ASUS M5A97 R2.0

Hey guys!

Some quick questions on overclocking the FX-8320 and M5A97 R2.0.

I am attempting a 4.0Ghz overclock. At this point I am just testing it and am hoping to get around 4.2-4.5Ghz in the end. My problem is this. In Manual voltage mode all goes well. Everything overclocks fine and at 4.2Ghz @ ~1.38V my Core Temp doesn't go higher than 47 degrees. The problem comes up when I switch it to offset mode. I want to use offset mode because it makes all the fancy Cool n Quiet Features available.

So I guess my question is this. Has anyone overclocked the same Mobo+CPU I have on offset mode. And if so, any suggestions on getting this stable?

All power saving features turned off (for now, will enable after stablized o/c)

Also weird thing. When I turn off CPU LLC, my voltage decreases on load. Goes from ~1.38ish to ~1.3ish. Is that normal?

You need to understand what LLC does. It is there to counter vDroop under load. Leave it on if overclocking. You want idle and load voltages to be as close to each other as possible without going low.

Also, Asus M5A97 R2.0 AM3+ board has 4+2 phase power and supports up to 140w CPU. Overclocking an FX 8 core can quickly exceed that. Be careful.

Don't worry about offset or C&Q. Get your OC stable at the lowest necessary voltage with the least fluctuation first.

That's what I had thought it did and I had left it on. When I keep it on, though, it makes my temps jump from a solid 44-47ish to 60s and crash the system almost instantly (Running Prime95 Small fft). Right now prime95 is running perfectly at 48 degrees but with LLC off. THe only odd thing is the VDrop is almost 0.1v. Have you O/C with offset before? And if you have can you give me a run through?

I'm more of looking for a O/C for the science of it. I will prolly just downgrade it to 4.0Ghz after I acheive it. Just kinda want to accomplish it for the experience.
