PSU

The FX-8320 comes with its own turbo boost to 4.0ghz. But if you're blue screening it could be another issue. Usually if you overclock the system it will just freeze.

But if you are trying to get to 4ghz, you'll need to up your voltage a little bit. I have my FX-8320 overclocked to 4.8ghz at 1.440v.

thank you for the quick reply! i noticed that at its default settings it only sits at 2.9ghz is that normal? will the turbo boost automatically clock it to 4.0ghz when needed?

Yeah mine sits down around that level when it is at idle, when I start doing some multitasking and have a couple of heavy recourse applications running that is when I notice the turbo boost. But right now I have it turned off because I have it overclocked. Having it jump from a stable 4.8 to 5ghz is not a very nice surprise.

thats good to hear i mostly use is for gaming so in this instance i could turn turbo boost off and raise the multiplier to 4.0ghz and there wouldn't be any jumps? and if i do need to adjust some voltages which ones in particular in the bios?

Yes you could turn off turbo boost and it should sit then around 4ghz. As long as you don't go over the stock turbo boost of 4ghz, your motherboard should still be able to automatically provide enough voltage to keep that 4ghz stable.
