Hey guys, basically I have just got my buddies old h70 and swapped it with my EVO 212, just wanted to know what clock speeds I am looking at on my sabertooth 990fx mobo, appreciate any help as I'm not too experienced with overclocking! P.s my psu is 650w and I'm also running a r9 290 if that helps!

I just raised the multi on mine until it wasn't stable any more. Then I increased the cpu voltage a bit to make it stable again and kept going. Got to 4.7GHz and ran into problems with stability so backed off to 4.6 GHz so I wouldn't have to raise the voltage any more. You should be able to do as well. Nothing sophisticated with that technique. Be sure to disable Turbo and watch temps. I like to use AMD Overdrive and watch the thermal margin instead of direct temps.

Dont have a clue where to start and dont have a ton of time to experiment as i have a daughter and i work 50 hours a week :/

Well, OC'ing is not something that can be done in a hurry. It can be quite painstaking. If you want to try my settings, the CPU clock multiplier is at 23 and the CPU voltage (vcore) is set at 1.475v. But use at your own risk. Be sure to watch your core temps.

You can also use AMD Overdrive to experiment with OC'ing. http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4645-amd-overdrive.html
The manual for it is: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CB4QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsites.amd.com%2Fus%2FDocuments%2FAMD_FX_Performance_Tuning_Guide.pdf&ei=olN2VJ-JAsXfoASRmIKgAg&usg=AFQjCNGS8w4ELNvvU1qNs6H1UJKEYe3F9g&sig2=lp__S5zjQrdm3XpPGotGcw&bvm=bv.80642063,d.cGU
In AOD you watch the thermal margin instead of core temps.

Thank you for your help, quick question.. Are you not finding that your 8350 is bottlenecking your 290x cause I haven't yet noticed a difference going from the 7870 Tahiti le to the r9 290 :/

No, not at all. In fact, I always run CPU usage vs GPU usage benchmarks for my rigs. It performs almost the same as my older i5-2500K @ 4.2GHz with the R9-290X. No difference in real life gaming.

Firestrike score for the FX-8350: 8838
Firestrike score for the i5-2500K: 8930

-----------------------FX-8350---i5-2500K

Graphics Score----11759.0-----11048.0
Physics Score-------8856.0-------7418.0
Combined Score ---3084.0-------4189.0

How strange, my 8350 doesn't feel any different on arma 2/3 then my previous 6300 :/ just feels sluggish and I'm not sure why.. Surely my 8350 and r9 290 can run arma 3 on low and get atleast 30 fps, but apparently not!

Arma 3 runs awful and its on multiplayer and single player, I appologise for taking so long to reply, I work crazy hours, but it feels sluggish, just doesn't seem to be a difference between the 6300, baffling..

Arma games are horribly optimized for AMD. Don't be surprised if a big rig can't do much with it. I have the same problem with DayZ (on the Arma II engine) with an 8350 and a 970, my advice would be to look up optimizations to make it run smoother. I was getting around 5-15 fps in cities and *maybe* up to 30-40 in forests, then I messed with the .ini and .cfg and now I'm doing 50+ in forests and, well... better in cities.
