Overclocking GPU with H170

Would I need a Z170 to overclock a gpu, or is it only the cpu that needs Z170?

Only the CPU needs Z170, you can overclock a GPU on any modern Intel chipset.

What is your power supply make and model? Having a good power supply is essential when overclocking.

Just adding on to this comment:

Specifically, you need a more powerful PSU than normal if your overvolting + overclocking. If your just overclocking on stock voltage, then a normal PSU is fine.

I don't think that's true in all cases... If you're already close to the amperage limit of your power supply, then upping core clocks could shorten the life of the power supply, could it not?

I'm not exactly sure. If you don't up the voltage, it should be the same amperage? Let me get some of our PSU gurus on here.

Raising the power limit is what actually increases PSU demands. The card will throttle based on power limit no matter what it's overclocked to. In most cases, the power limit cannot be increased by more than 10% without a custom BIOS anyway, so VGA overclocking is not going to make a huge difference for most people.
