Hi all, i'm a newbie so please excuse me. I understand that FSB and memory are meant to run at a 1:1 ratio. Right now I have a pentium 4 2.8C on an Asus p4p800 deluxe motherboard with kingston valueram ddr400, so right now, the memory and fsb are 1:1. If i want to overclock my 2.8C, then i would have to increase the FSB, making the ratio out of sync with the memory. So my question is will increasing just the FSB cause problems or stability issues? if you increase only the FSB does it really enhance performance? or does it depend on the ram? thanks alot.

Kingston value ram probably won't overclock past 210, therefore you could try 1:1 overclock and get about 140mhz extra maybe more. Or you could go 5:4 Dram ratio, which is a big performance hit. What cooling are you using?

Im using the stock intel cooler, but i want to get a new heatsink, maybe the swiftech mcx4000. But like you said, if my ram can't overclock well, maybe it wont be worth it. What is the ram you recommend to get a high overclock? (pc3500 isnt supported on this board, will it work?)

PC3200 is the standard, 3500, 3700, 4000, 4200, is just saying how far they could be overclocked. It will all work, you're using 2.8C so I would recommend PC3700, or PC4000, PC3700 gold by OCZ, or get the Geil PC4000. If you got cash, then the MCX4000+T is a better choice, i personally didn't like the MCX4000 too much, try out their new MCX478V, it looks pretty nice. Thermalright also has nice stuff.

Ok, let's say i got the OCZ 3700 or the Geil 4000, and the mcx478-v you mentioned. What is the maximum i can overclock my processor to? Plus, if i get these RAM, will it cause any stability problems? thanks.

It looks like you got a pretty high overclock with your OCZ 2X256 PC4000 EL, on the same motherboard as me.. how is it? Should i get that?

with PC3700, it's rated 233mhz, but they reach 245 no problem. 245x14=3430mhz, but you may not reach that with air cool.
