Question Overclocking i5-6500 still possible?

You can try ThrottleStop to do this, but I am not sure if this will help (it DID UNDERVOLT my locked cpu, but not sure about overclocking...)

Intel used to allow you to up the multiplier a few steps (3 I think) on non-K processors but then changed their minds so motherbd vendors released updated Bios' that removed the feature.

Does yours have a bios version that will allow it?
Given you have a 6-series CPu I will say no, I think 3 series was the last, but I will move this to the overclocking section, perhaps they can assist.
 
Yes it can, but only with the right board and BIOS. See overclocking.guide for full list of options (pretty much all Z170 boards and at least 1 B series).

I just did a locked Celeron last week in my signature.
