Dear all!

I have recently built a new PC, and would like to overclock my i7 4770k to 4.1 Ghz. Here is the window I am presented with (MSI Command Center):

I have a corsair H90 cooler, and the board is an MSI Z87i gaming ac.

I have never done this before, and just wanted some guidance before I go clicking buttons! If you make suggestions, please make sure they are complete (I.e. don't just suggest core speed increases without voltage increases, if they go hand in hand!).

Please feel free to also make suggestions about different overclocking software's if they are superior - although I ask you explain why your recommended alternative is superior.

Thank you kind people!

Don't overclock using a 3rd party program do it the proper way in BIOS

You have the same BIOS as me, so this makes it easier to explain :) enter BIOS and go into the overclock section, look for something called "Adjust CPU Ratio" change it to whatever number you want, i started out at 4Ghz and worked my way up, then adjust "CPU Core Voltage" set it to 1.125 if you start out at 4Ghz, some start at 1.200v but that's way too much for 4Ghz even for 4.1Ghz you want, so start at 1.125v, save your changes and wait for it to boot.

to test the stability i use
IBT http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?1978... run this 10 times on "High" preset, if you are stable after 5 you should be okay but i always run 10 to be sure
Realtemp http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/ to track temps while stresstesting

if everything is stable raise your CPU Ratio and Voltage little by little until you are at your 4.1GHz, remember to run IBT each time you increase your overclock to make sure it's stable, however a 4.1Ghz is a very small OC and should be very easy to obtain and maintain stability

the OC genie in bios will overclock your cpu to at least 4.0ghz, and all you have to do is click the button. it will make all necessary adjustments automatically. i can do manual OC in bios and hit 4.6-4.7 pretty easily, but i leave OC Genie activated on a daily basis. may be best option for you if you have little/no experience overclocking. whatever it gets you will be more than adequate for whatever you are using your rig for.

i know im late but ive just upgraded to a i7 4770K. lol. i had a i5 4690K and it breezed to 4.5GHz. but most of my games need more than 4 threads so i opted out for the i7 4770K. i wanted to ask, what are your digitALL power settings and CPU feature settings? im using the MSI Z97 Gaming motherboard so ive got the same bios as you and edd67, also. what have you managed to reach with your i7 4770K?

Only three and a half years late!!

Honestly, I OC'd it for a bit, but can't even remember what to, or how I did it. Sorry for being so useless! I'd recommend reading the answers above, or creating a new thread.
