Hello! I've had the i7-6700k and an Asus z-170a motherboard for about 2 years now. I never touched overclocking it and would like to. It sits at 4.0 base and I was wondering if it would stress it to push it to 4.5? And will I see a reasonable increase in games for it to be worth? and if so, How do i go about doing it in bios as far as pushing up voltage and clock goes? like is it safe to just leave the voltage at "automatic" for only a 4.5 overclock push? thanks in advanced!

Do you have a good cooler? Auto settings and overclocks usually don't mix, manually overclock in bios. Do not use built in tuning apps as they tend to over volt the cpu.

4.5 should be easily achieved on that chip with a GOOD cpu cooler. And time and patience!! It takes time to get it right and the patience to get it thermally compliant and stable.

Read this!! It's a fantastic guide!https://forums.tomshardware.com/faq/cpu-overclocking-guide-and-tutorial-for-beginners.3347428/
