Overclocking I7 6800k

Like the title says i was thinking about overclocking my I7 6800k to 4.2Ghz, but i am new to OC and i was wondering about voltage and ram speed and any other parameter value i need to adjust. I have 4x8gb Kingston hyperx predator 3200hz ram memory, water cooling, and 850W corsair 80+ platinum power suply. And my last question is it even worth it (i'm semi-professional gamer)? Thx in advance.

I think OCing your chip would give you some frame rate improvements on games, though nothing that is going to make or break your gaming experience. I always think of OCing as a hobby, kinda like car enthusiast like to tinker with their hot rods and get a little more out of them...

That being said, it should be pretty easy to get a good OC out of your chip. When I am doing a basic OC, I raise the multiplier by one and reboot the system. I keep doing this until it won't boot. Then you add a little voltage, until it is stable again. Rinse and repeat until you get to a comfortable OC. Run some benchmarks to make sure your system is stable and adjust as needed.

I'm not sure on the exact voltages and such for your chip, I have a 6700k so it won't be the same... I'm sure you can look it up as far as the heat and voltage tolerances for your 6800k...

Oh, and if you have never OC'd before, I'd suggest looking up some videos on how to do it. It varies per motherboard, but there are some automatic things you have to turn off. There are a lot of good guides out there and if you are lucky, you can find one for your board...

Depends on the games you're playing. Are they lightly threaded? Heavily threaded? The nice thing about Broadwell E is that you can clock individual cores. So, you could have 4 cores running at 4.3 to keep temps down, and 2 cores running at 4.6 for those lightly threaded games that need more single core attention.

This guide is a good place to start. Get yourself some good monitoring software, like HW Info or HW Monitor. Really watch those CPU temps. BWE can heat up pretty quick......

Well i was asking particularly for OC to 4.0, 4.1 or 4.2Ghz since it has the best heat/preformance results.

Every processor is a little bit different. Just gotta find the voltage that works best for your setup.

Overclocking this chip is fairly easy. What motherboard are you using? Just because your chip can handle an overclock doesn't mean you have the correct setup for it. If you want to get over 4.0GHz on an i7 6800k, you're going to need a motherboard that's capable of withstanding the voltage, as well as an ample cooling solution for your rig. The 7800k is safe to about 72 degrees celcius, and with a STRIX motherboard and Corsair H110i V2, I have mine overclocked to 4.1GHz at 1.226v to the core and it stays at about 45 degrees celcius under load. Honestly, because of the ability to overclock so easily to 4.1 at a low voltage and temp, I'd be willing to comfortably overclock this chip to 4.4 or 4.5GHz and probably be able to stay around the 1.29 or 1.3v mark, which is pretty much the limit I'd go for any Intel chip.
