HI guys,

First time OCer, and I've overclocking my i7 920 DO on an Asrock X58 Extreme. Attaching screenshots. My question is. is 50C typical for 3.4GHz while idle? I'm using a Hyper Master 212 Evo.

That's quite a low voltage already, so that's doing good as well. Mine's 1.35 V or so @ 3.5 GHz.

There should be an option in the BIOS, yes, and in your OS as well (High Performance mode in Windows does not use low-power states).

Idle 50 C is a bit high, but bearable. Make sure that your thermal paste is applied and the plastic sheet from the copper plate has been removed. It's likely that the temps are high because this is an old chip.

yeah i've applied the thermal paste and removed the copper. i'm just wondering if something is off. Was expecting it to be like 5C lower.

I did a real bench stress test, and it got up to 65C

I guess next question is,

Has anyone managed to get higher Hz on the same voltage?

Or 3.4gz on lower voltage?

[Update] So I took out my Heatsink and tried to reapply it.

Oddly enough, now I'm iddling at 45C (up 5C from yesterday) even though I managed ym reduce my voltage to 1.184 from 1.2

Actually, one more question.

my CPu is always running at max ghz. Even when Idle. Is this how it is when you OC, or is there an option in the bios that I can change that will adjust Mhz as necessary per demand?
