Overclocking Intel I7 4770K

Hey guys... I want to overclock my processor to 4.5 Ghz. Will it be better to sync all of the multiplier to 45? Or will it be better if I put; 1 core to 45, 2 cores to 45, 3 cores to 44, and 4 cores to 43? I want to know your opinions on this. Also, I want to know what voltage should I be running this? Currently, I have all the multipliers at 45 and the CPU Core Voltage to 1.2

Your processor supports Intel EIST, and I assume your motherboard will do as well, so setting slower clock speeds based on the number of processors in use isn't necessary.

EIST lowers the clock speed when the computer doesn't require extra grunt, and I don't believe it will lower the VCORE if you've set it manually. On that basis, I'd set the multiplier to 45 and keep EIST enabled.

As far as voltages go, it's all about trial and error really, but here are some figures from my 2500k.

4.0Ghz - 1.2V
4.2Ghz - 1.22V
4.4Ghz - 1.245V

Your numbers may not match mine, but it gives you an idea.

Thanks for your reply. I've got my cpu overclocked to 4.8 Ghz. CPU voltage is on 1.4v. Stess tested it for 2 hours and temps never went past 85C!

I'd say that 85C is pushing the processor too far, but on the other hand, there will probably never be an occassion when all eight threads are pushed to 100% load. On that basis, you could argue that your temperature reading is actually fine.

I personally like to keep the temperature below 70C. This also gives me some headroom as software-based temperature readings aren't entirely accurate.

Do you think I should turn it down some? Maybe stay at 4.5 Ghz?
