I have this fairly old and crappy processor from the late 2000's that brings down a lot of aspects of my pc. I was wondering if overclocking would bring any huge issues for my pc in the long run. I'm okay with any potential damages to my PC, but I was wondering how high the risk would possibly be to overclock to 3GHz. This is also a fairly old system, which is a modified Vostro 410.
My specs:
GPU : GeForce GTX 750 Ti
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7200 @ 2.53Ghz
Memory: 4 GB Ram

The maximum CPU I see for that at userbenchmark.com is a Q9550.

At Delidded.com they show a Xeon X5450 works. usually the Q9550, but no Q9650 means a problem with E0 stepping CPUs.

The easy option is the latest BIOS from Dell and a Q9550.
The cheapest would be to tapemod a 1066fsb CPU to 1333fsb. Q6600 SLACR goes 3.0GHz. E7500 ( both slower than Q9550)
The best performance would be a Xeon swap but only the C0 versions. X5460 SLANP 3.17GHz, X5450 SLASB, E5450 SLANQ

You can't on the vostro's motherboard. Even if you could at 4ghz it would still be really weak and hold back the 750ti.
 
Yeah that architecture is so old by today's standards that any overclock, even an agressive one, would not make much difference. I built an E8400 gaming rig back in 2009 and overclocked the stink out of it (up to 4.4GHz). Results were great for games back then, but by 2012 it no longer mattered with newer games and apps and I retired it to a backup general use kid gaming PC. Long story short, don't bother overclocking it even if you could for modern day use. It's not even a lowly dual Celeron G-series by today's standards.
