[SOLVED] Overclocking Kingston DDR3 4GB DIMM KVR1333D3N9/4G

Hi Guys,

Hope everyone's doing great during this quarantine.

I have been interested in building a budget PC with lowest cost possible, in doing so, have stumbled a situation where my Motherboard is defaulting my 4GB DDR3 RAM stick to 800 MHz. I wold like to set its speed to its maximum potential which is 1333 MHz for the getting the best performance out of it.

You may try it out like the review , I used the google translate: "In the next step we tried the DDR3-1600 CL8-8-8-24, but despite 1.64 volts we couldn't get into the BIOS. With latencies of CL9-9-9-24, however, we were able to start Windows without any problems and also perform all performance measurements. This even worked with the standard voltage of 1.50 volts. " But nobody will know you can or can't until you try it out by yourself.

Thanks mate for sharing the interesting post, it helped me understand quite a few things, however, my BIOS seem to have more fields than the the fields mentioned, I'm not sure, if I'm supposed to leave them as they are or they will be required to be changed like other values.

tCL -> 6 -> 9
tRAS -> 15 -> 24
tRP -> 6 -> 9
tRCD -> 6 -> 9

tWR -> 6 -> ?
tRFC - 64 - 107

tRTP - 4 -> ?

Can you please tell me what values should be added to the "?" above?

DRAM frequency: from auto to manual.
Configure DRAM timing by SPD: disable to enable, or auto(?), or something else (?)

For other values ( tWR, tRFC, etc) , check the linker for more info, sorry I don't know what exactly setting too.

Yes, there is an option to change the DRAM frequency from auto to either 800, 1066 or 1333. So when I switch it to 1333 with default timings (https://ibb.co/xL7J3G7) the PC does not boot and I am required to pull out the CMOS which sets BIOS back to default settings with DRAM freq being 800.
 
Naah man, it was forced to be clocked on 800 MHz on auto. The motherboard is capable of running it 1333 even in single channel mode.

Sounds like the board doesn't like the ram. Do you have another set you can try? That's the only way to know if it's the board or the ram.

I think the issue is with wrong timings set, I was able to find the below values from the thread shared by @cin19 on this thread, although I am not sure about what to set for the remaining values below.

Parameter ->Original value->New value

tCL -> 6 -> 9
tRAS -> 15 -> 24
tRP -> 6 -> 9
tRCD -> 6 -> 9

tWR -> 6 -> ?
tRFC - 64 - 107
tWTR - 4 -> ?
tRRD - 3 -> ?
tRTP - 4 -> ?

I think this should solve the problem.

Basically you can try higher numbers and it should work and then you can reduce them until it stops working. Then you know the minimum amount you can run.

Tried these values and my PC wouldn't boot up. I had to pop out the CMOS to make it work. I think these values are for dual channel mode?
