Ok,I'm a FNG to this, but would like to learn more about overclocking. Is there a site I can go to? If so,where?
I have just built my first comp. and am wondering how ("overclockable") it is.
Any thoughts on my questions or system? Thanks!

You should be able to find every bit of info that you need in this forum - just search for bits a and bobs to get an idea.

Make sure that you read up on problems so that you know what you are getting in to and make sure that you read about your individual bits of hardware on review sites like this one because they usually have a section during their review that talks about the "overclockability".

The good news is that you memory is 400 MHz so that helps in upping the FSB. One very basic and easy thing that you can do is to up the multiplier in the bios. This gives the smallest gains (compared to major FSB / voltage increases) but it usually works fine on stock heatsink / fan combos. EG my mate has his P4 1.8 GHz overclocked to 2.4 GHz with a stock fan and I set my 2500+ to run at 2GHz when I got it instead of the stock speed of 1.8GHz.

Just remember that when you start to overclock you need to go in to Windows and do several things to check for system stability - just cause the PC switches on the does the memory test does not mean that your overclocking has been a success. I would say running a benchmark, going on the Internet and playing MP3s for a few minutes would be a good test initially (not all at the same time obviously).

4.77MHz to 4.0GHz in 10 years. Imagine the space year 2020 :)

Thanks. I tried to bump a few settings, but It was actually making me go backwards. When I started from scratch again,I went too far and got locked out of BIOS and could not boot,so I cleared the CMOS and called it quits for the night!
I guess it just takes some experience, lol.
