Overclocking my core 2 duo E8500 . HELP NEEDED

hi guys,
i am going to overclock my C2D e8500 .i have a normal intel heatsink .
i have no idea how to overclock a cpu .
please help me

I suggest you consider an aftermarket CPU though - I doubt you'll get much of an overclock with the stock cooler
A stock intel cooler isn't enough to keep temps in check during overclocking. Many coolers appear to be only slightly better at idle, but they vastly out perform the stock cooler at peak load. The link snowctrl posted is a nice in depth article. I overclocked my e8400 from 3ghz to 3.6ghz just by bumping my fsb from 333 to 400mhz. No other asjustments and it's pretty stable. It's not a maximum overclock either. Using an older cooler master v8 air cooler (not one of the new ones).
 
Definitely need the aftermarket cooler. I got up to 3.8 on my e8500 at 400 FSB - just had to take memory frequency off Auto and to 2.00x since I only had DDR2-800. Faster memory I'm sure you could get even more, it's a great cpu I ran this overclock for several years with no problems.
