Overclocking my cpu

I'm quite new to overclocking.

specs:
AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition 3,40 GHz + Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B
Kingston ValueRAM - 4 GB
Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-BIT
SAPPHIRE HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE
1 Tb Ram
500 watt cooler master gx lite

A friend told me I should overclock my cpu. Do you think I can overclock my cpu with these specs? (I know somebody who is better in overclocking) Any advice?

if you do and the PSU maybe can change from good brand .. maybe the PSU will noise if OC the CPU ... good luck
