Hey Everyone!
Recently, I have just built my first gaming/work desktop, and would love to increase my overclock.
Specs:
AMD FX-8350 @ 4.42GHZ Stable
ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0
16GB Radeon Memory Preformance Edition [ Plus - 8GB Ballistix Low Clock Speed I Interchange for Rendering Only: the 16GB is my standard]
MSI R9 270 Video Card (W/ Twin Frozr)
600W 80+ Bronze EVGA PSU
120 GB Samsung SSD (Linux - Ubuntu 13.10)
1TB WD (Windows 8.1)
3TB WD (Linux Storage)
Zalman Z11+ Case
Hyper 212 EVO CPU Heat-sink
Fan Configuration:
Stock Zalman Z11+ Intake & Exhaust
- 120mm Front Intake
- 120mm Rear Exhaust
- 80mm Side Exhausts (2x)
- 120mm Top Exhaust
Upgrades:
- 120mm Typhoon Bottom Intake
- 140mm CoolerMaster Top Exhaust
Hyper 212:
- 120mm Stock Exhaust Pointed Away From Block Towards Read
- 120mm Noctura Intake Into CPU Cooling Block
R9 270:
- Twin Frozr GPU Cooling Unit Pointed Towards Bottom - Over PSU
Case Mods: (Will Be Done Soon To Maximize CFM's & Overall Airflow)
- 3-7" Bore Hole or 50 1/8 Holes - Below HDD Mounts
- Adding Filter
- Adding a 120mm or 80mm Intake (Either Noctura or Basic 80mm)
- Case is currently lifted 1 1/2" off carpet on Wood (It actually doesn't look half bad)
My Temperatures:
Prime95 Torture Test Run:
- Socket: 64.5 C
- CPU 45.8 C
My Idle Tempatures are:
- Socket: 29.0 C
- CPU: 11.4 C
My VBat Voltage is at 3.312v
My Main Question:
Currently I am overclocked at 4.42GHZ and running stable. Every time I try to boost the OC from here I either loose a core from low voltage, overheat and shutdown the test do to high voltage, or I can't even boot Windows 8.1; BTW, Linux runs much smoother.
I am looking for the best Overclocking guide, I don't just want to plug in values, I want to learn. I know there are countless threads on this forums, but some links that seem really good are broken. Does anyone have any good guides or is wiling to advise me? I can afford a Corsair H100i, but I would like to work with what I have. My goal is 5.0GHz, but if I can get a stable 4.5GHz for the interim, that would be absolutely wonderful! I am open to all ideas. I really don't want to get the 9590 just to hit 5.0GHz, I know this beast of an 8350 can do it
haha
Update:
Just Ran Prime95 at the 4.5GHz OC for 16min and pulled these results.

Thanks Guy!
