Downloaded MSI afterburner with the interest of OC'ing my GPU, but whats entirely necessary? There's the core clock, shader clock, memory clock, whats really of practical use? If it makes any difference im running it on a asrock z370 killer w/ an intel i7 8700k.

My 2 cents but I find overclocking a video card not worth the small gains in fps. If you have good cooling on the video card Nvidia will apply its boost to the card and get all the extra mhz you need. For example my 1080ti has a aggressive fan curve to keep it cool and during gaming it will apply a boost to 1956mhz. Well past stock and overclock speeds. I had a 1070 and it boosted nicely as well. Use Afterburner to change the fan curve so the fans kick up sooner as the temps go up. Mine goes to 100% at 65 Celsius, the noise really isn't that noticeable.
