Well guys, i spent 3 hours gathering this data

XFX Radeon Hd 5830 Temperatures:*C (Degrees Celcius)
Software Used: Argus Monitor

Stock Temps
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - 65-68*C
Dirt 2 - 65-68*C
Far Cry 2 - 65-68*C
GTA IV - 65-68*C
Just Cause 2 - 65-68*C
Mafia II - 65-68*C
Mirrors Edge - 58-60*C
Red faction: Gureilla - 65-68*C

Stock Clocks
GPU Clock - 800Mhz
Memory clock - 1000Mhz

Overlocked Temps
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - 68-70*C
Dirt 2 - 70-72*C
Far Cry 2 - 66-68*C
GTA IV - 63-65*C
Just Cause 2 - 70-72*C
Mafia II - 68-70*C
Mirrors Edge - 61-63*C
Red faction: Gureilla - 70-72*C

Overclock Settings
GPU Clock - 900Mhz
Memory clock - 1300Mhz

Im using the latest Catalyst Control Centre as of this date, also an observation is that on tomshardware the 2011 gpu charts dont contain an hd 5830
(i wonder why not) so i had to reffer to the 2010 charts and saw that the normal radeon hd 5830 had a load temp of 78*C while the xfx hd 5830 had a load temp of 75*C.When i run furmark tests on stock settings, my gpu reaches 85/86*C, but when overclocked it reaches 90/91*C (maybe more, since i didnt give it much patience) plus i live in africa. The overclock frequencies are the limit of what my Catalyst software allow and im not comfortable going beyond that. The scariest of all numbers is the one i got from furmark but otherwise im gaming on the highest settings in these games @ resolution of 1280X1024 (My square dell monitor cant do higher). Also to note is how the temps in GTA IV actually decreased when i overclocked.

Anyways questions are, are these temps ok? Do i need to worry? should i remove the overclock? Is My GPU out of the ordinary? Are my temps strange? Please all opinions will be appreciated. Even form tomshardware mods ( i know you guys are watching).

I have a HIS 5830 card stock is 820/1090
Fan on auto

starting at 53 degrees
after running futuremark 11 benchmark mode it goes to 73 degrees.

Maybe you have a high ambient temperature?

Also what case is it in and what are the cpu/mb temps?

You could try:

- Cleaning the dust off the gpu fan
- Cleaning the dust off the case fan(s)
- Click "enable manual fan control" and set to 40-45%

Yeah, my card idles at 36-38*C (idle meaning im not running anythin) dont think theres much ambient temps

my card stock is 800/1000

i've already enabled manual fan control to 100%

dont you think my card is somehow running cooler than other 5830's?

do you think my temps are higher than normal when overclocked?

i'll run 3d mark 11 on stock and overclock settings, then let you know my temps, plus i guess some cable management can improve airflow in my casing.

look, i havent registered my 3d mark 11 so i have only one preset to run it with , you know the one with resolution of 1280X1024,

i need you to post your temps of 3dmark11 running on stock and overclocked frequencies at that preset so i can compare. (when you oc your 5830 overclock it to the same oc frequencies as mine) and also post your stock frequencies of your hd 5830.
Please in need this info.

Your temps aren't that bad, that card is known for running hot. You could always try applying aftermarket thermal paste.

Also, are you noticing any performance increases? Because unless you are NOTICING the OC, then its not worth it.

Yeah, so i ran 3dmark 11 and also just got crysis2 (runnnig on full setting)i always run @ 1280x1024 resolution no matter what app it is.

3dmark 11 basic (performance preset)
stock settings - 67-69*C
overclock settings - 72-74*C

crysis 2
overclock settings - 75-77*C

by now crysis 2 has topped all my game temps @ 77*C the only app that went higher was furmark (91*C)
please tell me if my card is in a dangerous situation and if the temps are too high or if it will be ok for me to continue with this overclock?

it would be nice to see your temps too.(stock and overclocked)
please reply with most info as possible.

Well furmark pushes the card to the extreme so you should expect high temps. But if its performing well while gaming then everythings good, because thats what is most important!

okay i'll start with my catalyst version since i think i upgrade to a beta version to run dragonage 2 smoothly.

Driver Packaging Version 8.84.3-110226a-114256E-ATI
Catalyst Version 11.4
Provider ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1142
2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/CLASS/{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}/0001
Direct3D Version 7.14.10.0825
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.10660
Catalyst Control Center Version 2011.0226.2342.42516

Running 3DMark11 performace preset/ benchmark only mode:

GPU clock: 800MHz
Memory clock: 1000MHz
Fan @ 100%
Idle Temp: 44 degrees
After Benchmark: 55 degrees

- same GPU and Memory setting as above but with Fan at 40% only
Idle Temp: 48 degrees
After BenchMark: 70 degrees

note these temperatures where read straight of catalyst control center

If you want to see my bench mark results here:
http://3dmark.com/3dm11/928068

I tried to overclock but it keeps black screening in 3DMark during the first and second gpu tests - tried 4 times.

Sorry i don't have crysis to test it

Did a quick Just cause 2 Benchmark test
Fan @ 40%
Temp 62 degrees

I see thats what I thought,

My theory is that because the card doesn't directly blow the hot air out of the case, then some of it may still be circulating in you case so the GPU is sucking in hot/warm air and therefore after a while your GPU temp would be higher than a "blower" type fan. (of course this is based on my knowledge of thermal dynamics and I haven't tested it - so don't quote me)

As long as it is under 100 degrees and there is no graphic glitches then it should be fine. If not just turn down your settings a bit, stock and max overclock are not your only options.

On a side note, it has been stated before by others that futuremark bench tests are way more stressful to the GPU than normal gaming.

Don't worry, your fine.

- My card does overclock but it runs into a black screen when i run 3Dmark11 - I suspect either the drivers or the power supply-
