To summarize this: faster memory clocks decreases true latency on the RAM, which gives better performance overall.

Also if you were to calculate the latency with both 3000cl15 vs 3400cl17, they'd be exactly the same (10ns vs 9.99ns). So I wouldn't worry too much about what you're configured at right now. If it's stable and runs smoothly, then all is good.

Run memtest86 or memtest86+
They boot from a usb stick and do not use windows.

If you can run a full pass with NO errors, your ram should be ok.

Running several more passes will sometimes uncover an issue, but it takes more time.
Probably not worth it unless you really suspect a ram issue.

Intel does not depend much on ram speed for performance.
