Download a program such as Speedfan and check the temps as you gradually increase the clock speed in your BIOS or O/C program.

The ASUS motherboard should be able to give a decent overlock and 2.0Ghz to 2.4Ghz doesn't sound like a massive overclock. You may have to decide whether it is worth investing in a new cooler if you can't reach 2.4Ghz with your standard cooler. I have the Coolermaster 212+ and it's pretty good.

What games are you planning on playing? This CPU is not really built for gaming and even overclocked you might still not be satisfied with the results.

My PSU will be fine cos it is 500w. Thanks for the links, i will look into it. I have also a 18month old Aspire Acer M1640 PC. http://www.mynewcheap.co.uk/products/details/acer-aspire-m1640-pc-16-lcd-tft-bundle/12170/
Whether it would be better to upgrade this one i dont know. Thanks Again.

The Acer has a Celeron processor which is in the same class as the Sempron.

I was more worried about the type of power connector to the Motherboard on your PSU.

If you can find it. Also ensure that it is supported by your motherboard.

Sure it would help but your video card needs to be upgraded too.

Honestly I wouldn't upgrade this computer. Save your money and build a new one.

Is the Athlon CPU a box cpu or OEM? If its box the stock cooler should be fine unless you are palnning to OC. Is there an Athlon II X3 thats cost slightly more?

That's a good card and would compliment the CPUs that we talked about. What is your ultimate budget limit btw?

Then I would go with the XII then up the video card to 5770 since the card performs the almost the same with an X2 or an X3.

Does the case comes with a decent power supply?

I would also try to find a cheaper Motherboard. That one has 2 pcie slots but the second slot is 4x only so you won't even want to use it as a Crossfire.
