Overclocking newbie - wizards there,,, HELP!

i just read wonders of overclocking intel's e2610, and i wud like to give it a try,, would anyone help me doing it,, i got a 945GCT-HM motherboard by ECS with e2160 instslled on it somebody guide me please!!! tnx

You really dnt know how much your asking of people here. I'd strongly suggest you read the overclocking stickies first to get a good understanding of what your getting yourself in for.

That's a polite way of saying that you need to do some of your own research. That's why we put up stickies at the top of the different groups.

But to help you get started:

This should be your first stop.

This should be your second stop. You need to know something about thermal management or you can fry your CPU. It's actually kind of difficult to fry a modern CPU, but it is possible.

Third stop will be a guide for your particular motherboard. Why struggle to reinvent the wheel. Google is your friend.

You will need better cooling. Here are two under $50 heatsinks that are pretty popular:

They both require a somewhat different approach to applying thermal compound.

Go through the first two threads. Do not do anything until you have a good idea about what you are trying to do. Once you have definite questions (you will, you will ), come back and ask.

Keep in mind that these are guides, not cookbooks. YMMV. Your Mileage May Vary. Because of all the variables, you may not do as well as someone else with a similar system. Or you might do better.
