Hi,

I have a Gigabyte GA-H170 HD3 DDR3. I understand this specific chip set will not allow me to change the multiplier of my CPU within the BIOS, however the motherboard is shipped with Easy tune.

My question is will i be able to overclock my CPU VIA software with this board?

I have a 6600k.

thanks

Easytune has functions that are useful other than overclocking, so maybe that's why they supplied it. I would strongly recommend getting a Z170 board with that CPU.

What CPU cooler did you get?
have you tried it yet? Messing with overclocking from the operating system via software is very tricky as you can brick a motherboard. Overclocking via bios is almost always safer. If the motherboard offers some auto overclocking feature like alot of msi boards do via the click of a button on the motherboard then sure that would work. As far as overclocking from windows via software? That's just a risk.

When Skylake was first released, some overclocking was possible, especially 'locked' processors on Z boards. since then Intel, Microsoft, and others have 'de-implemented' that sort of overclocking.

You need a different (Z170) motherboard for multiplier/voltage overclocking on that motherboard. BCLK will give you a little bit and you many be able to use XMO memory profiles, and mess with your fans.
