I'm trying to overclock my g3258 with the MSI h97 pc mate but i cannot change the core ratio.
my bios version is 5.9

Solution
Yes, people thought that board at one time could OC a pentium aniversary. I OC mine on a B85 board.

When you select "CPU ratio" by simply moving the mouse in the BIOS, what happens when you type in a number like 40? Does "Auto" change to 40?

If it doesn't then yry a few older BIOS versions. This post implies that board could OC, and then the capability went away. https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/773701-overclocking-help/

Update, start with BIOS 5.2 and then use the last one that OCs. Please post your results. https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H97-PC-Mate.html

hi, thanks for the feedback, i updated to 5.2 and it still didn't let me change the cpu frequency, it's greyed out and locked at 3200. This was the same for all other updates.
this is a picture from version 5.4 (they all looked like this)
is there something i need to enable or do before i can overclock?
thanks

Try each of the BIOS updates looking for one that is unlocked, 5.2 may be too early.

Look and see if there is a you-tube video showing OC'ing on that MB. Watching someone else do it may give you the answer. I don't have that board, and sometimes there's a non-obvious thing you have to click to take things from automatic to manual before you can make manual adjustments. BIOS setting have the worst human factors ever.
