would it be a wise thing to buy an x38 mobo with 1600fsb support, in order to overclock my Q9300 from 2.5 to 3.0ghz on air? Im saying long term as I dont plan on changing for about 1.5 years, but I need it for heavy video editing. I dont plan on migrating to vista either, as im using 1066mhz 3gb maxed out for 32bit OS (xp sp3). I dont want to use watercooling either. so what should I do?

I am considering the same cpu overclocked to the same speed. I think it should hit 3.0GHz without much voltage increase meaning it should last a long time. You could probably even do it on a P35 board but I do not know if they accept the new 45nm CPU's. Might take a BIOS upgrade.

Most P35's should be shipping from the manufacturers with 45nm support by now, but there's still a chance you could get an 'older' P35 board thats been sitting in the warehouse for a while and would require a BIOS update.

The Q9300 just needs DDR2-800 to reach 3Ghz, which is OCing the fsb up to 400mhz (400x7.5=3Ghz, 7.5 being the Q9300's multiplier).

I'd head over the Intel section of xtremesystems.org forums and see what sort of voltages the Q9300 likes for 3Ghz stable.

Good luck!
