Overclocking R7 240 Power Control?

Hi there

I have An Radeon R7 240 2Gb and it consumes MAX 35 Watt

only thing is i just wanna try overclocking to what the card can handle only thing is i see somethin about power control what does it mean if i put the slider up to 5% wil it 5x consume 35 Watt or how does it work? i have it on 2% now and i have an 230 Watt PSU how do i know how much i can put it on?

As long as you don't touch Power control or card voltage, the card won't draw more power than it does atm. So you can raise memory and clock frequencies without issues, give it slight overclock. However I suggest that you upgrade your PSU first when you decide to buy new pc
If you are using amd catalyst control center to do the overclocking there is really no downside to it since you cant adjust the voltages.
For overclocking:
Increasing the clocks (for the core first, do the memory after) by 15mhz then check to see if its stable.
I recommend using unigine valley for stress testing, run it for 10-15mins if you see no artifacts or no crashes after that time increase the clocks by 15 then repeat.
Remember to check temps while overclocking, gpu-z is a good program to monitor temps.
Once you find a clock speed that is unstable reduce the clock by 5mhz each time until you find the highest stable clock.
Once you've found the stable clock i usually run valley again for 30-40mins just to make sure the overclock is solid.
Repeat for overclocking the memory, unless your card has a temp probe for the memory you wont have to monitor the temps so closely.

When you OC this way R7 240 it will draw up to 60-70watts. Considering you cpu will draw another 50-70watts = 140watts + fans in your pc, hdd comes around 170watts I wouldn't OC GPU before upgrading your PSU!
 
Thats strange cause with overclocking you are not making the card draw more watts as far as iknow thats only if you do it with Power Control as far as i did my research cause before this card i had an Radeon HD 5570 1GB that draws 42 watt on max load! and i overclocked it with core clock 50MHZ more and Memory 150MHZ more and i used that settings for over 1year. with the same PSU and the R7 240 is Drawing max 35 Watt Cause i have the club 3d version.

So if i only overclock the core and memory it wil not draw more power from my PSU does it?

And What Does Power Control Overclock means?

Power control is an option in AMD overdrive software that allows your card to consume more power than its stock TDP, you generally want to max the slider as then the card wont throttle itself to meet power constraints. It doesn't tweak the voltage. It just increases the limit of power from the PSU that the GPU can accept. Which means if the card needs to draw more power for a demanding game, it will be possible to do so if you increase the power limit from this setting. This is totally independent from voltage tweak/ overclocking. It helps your gpu perform better though. If you increase the memory and clock frequencies too you can achieve a good overclocking with default voltages.
 
So i saw on the overclock utility from AMD Radeon Settings my Standard Core Clock is 600MHZ and The Memory 800MHZ. but via the Radeon Settings i can go max to 1000Mhz Core Clock & 1000MHZ Memory What if i put the Card Core Clock on 850 MHZ And the Memory 900 MHZ will it blow my psu? or do i also need to do power control higher? you know i dont know about power controls overclocking i dont wanna blow my PSU XD

can you help me maybe a bit :$ i just want the same settings as my previous graphic card and that is 850 MHZ Core Clock and 900 MHZ Memory. my card now can easily play the newest games on stock settings but you know just wanna see what i can get out of the card
