overclocking r9 280x nearly unnoticeable?

hey guys

I decided to overclock my r9 280 3gb .
I went up 50 mhz and heaven only gave me a 1.2 fps boost.

default clock (1100) i got 38 fps
1150 i got 39.2 and when i went up to 1175 i got 37.9 fps.

i'm no expert , but this doesn't seem normal lol.
i use amd overdrive, and i bumped up the power limit as i went along.

Am i doing something wrong? can my card just not handle it?
I have an I5-4670K and heaven was turned up to max settings.

this is average, overclocking gpus dose not offer much of a performance boost any more unless you can push it several hundred mhz faster

i got about 5fps boost on a 100mhz boost on my r9 270x
