Felicitations!

I am currently upgrading my MSI B450m pro m2 to an MSI B450m Gaming Plus after reviewing this reddit post:

View: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/c7qj5e/am4_vcore_vrm_ratings_to_help_you_decide_on_a/

and seeing how the m2 is a low quality board. I also want to make it more future proof because I think I will upgrade to a 3rd gen ryzen chip and overclock at some point, in addition to overclocking my 2600 and RAM. I have the Corsair c15 vengeance 3000 and it is currently at 3200 15-17-17-35.

This brings me to my questions. Do you guys think that the motherboard upgrade would be worth it? Additionally how do I go about overclocking the 2600? Should I just be using PBO? How far should I try to push the RAM?

Is there a guide to overclocking ryzen 2000 chips?

Solution
My Ryzen 5 2600 running at 4 GHz (@1.3v) with my RAM OC'd to 3400 MHz performs better than a stock 2600x in pretty much every Benchmark that I have run.
Which is exactly what I was shooting for when I bought it.

Here is a guide to OC a Ryzen 2000 series CPU:
https://www.tweaktown.com/guides/8703/ryzen-2000-series-overclocking-guide/index.html
If that doesn't work you may need to try an older version like this one:

As for switching your motherboard, I would not bother until/if you are ready to upgrade to a 3000 series CPU.

Thank you very much for forwarding those links.

In regards to the motherboard Is it not worth the investment for the potential small performance increase?

Also I have been overclocking ram but had read that ryzen only recognizes even numbered latency/timings and will round odd numbers up? But cpu z displays the odd times under memory when I load it.

To get Ryzen 2000 series CPU's to use odd numbered RAM timings you need to disable geardown mode in the BIOS RAM settings.
Have you looked at using the DRAM Calculator for Ryzen and Taiphoon Burner to get OC timings to test with your RAM?
http://www.softnology.biz/files.html

I personally wouldn't worry about getting any higher than 3200 MHz, but you might be able to tighten up the timings using those tools.
And I would just make sure you have good airflow across your VRM and see how well your current MB will let you OC your 2600.

That dram calculator was incredibly helpful. I can not articulate how much simpler that made the entire ram oc process. Even on safe it helped me drop the timings quite a bit.

How much do ryzen 5 2600 overclocks tend to improve performance? It seems by and large that ryzen does not see huge increases from overclocks and are pretty well optimized out of the box.
