Hi Guys! :hello:

Need to know best bios setting for overclocking my i5 750 on Asus P7P55D!
I hv got CM Scout casing...2x2gb Corsair dominator ram (1600mhz)c8. Corsair tx650 watt psu and CM hyper212+ cooling solution.
i want to make it stable at 3.8 to 4.0ghz. plz tell me stable settings for these configurations.
till now the only stable setting i could get with my little knowledge is:

Using [X.M.P] Setting. 3.611Ghz
ratio: 18
blck: 200
vcore: 1.35
IMC: 1.3
Dram: 1.65

i know these are high but stability tests (prime95 and linX) only pass at these settings otherwise they give errors.p.s temp goes around 75c i m worried :(
what should i do? Any help would be highly appreciated.

waiting for expert replies
Regards.

UPDATE 1:
found one more stable setting after doing alot of testing with voltages.

Using [X.M.P] Setting: 3.611Ghz
ratio: 18
blck: 200
vcore: 1.275
IMC: 1.275
Dram: 1.65
PLL: auto
PCH: auto
LLC: Enabled

UPDATE 2:
found another stable setting after doing helluva of testing with voltages.

Using [X.M.P] Setting: 3.812Ghz
ratio: 19
blck: 200
vcore: 1.35
IMC: 1.3
Dram: 1.65
PLL: 1.9
PCH: auto
LLC: Enabled

No plz tell me how to get to 4.0ghz mark!
my voltage red zone starts above Vcore: 1.381v IMC: 1.30v and Dram: 1.681v

Solution
You have the exact same BIOS as me.

Under DRAM Frequency your options are 6x, 8x, 10x although it will just show the result (base clock x 6/8/10).

I would suggest taking off XMP and going to Manual.

160 is a great starting point. Try running 160 base clock with turbo boost enabled. It gives a great jump over stock settings and you don't have to fool around with voltages too much. Then manually set your RAM to 1600 (10x), and set the timings to 8, 8, 8, 24, and the voltage to 1.65.

Make sure to DISABLE Load Line Calibration - the quick explanation is that LLC prevents Vcore from drooping under load. This is fine, but with Turbo Boost enabled it is supposed to droop. Depending on the boost level, it will be able to give a different...

1st is your ram running at 1600 w/ correct timings?
What settings did you disable/enable in bios, like llc, spread spectrum, etc?

For example make sure you have these disabled:
C1E, C3/C6/C7, EIST, and turbo

Also check out cpu-z, if you see your core voltage jumping up and down try enabling LLC to help manage that.

You should check out the stickies before posting a question like this. There is plenty of complete and comprehensive guides available. Here's one you might want to look at:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/263043-29-1156-core-core-overclocking-guide

(And yeah 1.35 Vcore 1.3 IMC are WAAAYYY too high for 3.8ghz. This is why you should do some reading and learn how to set it up yourself. It probably needs in the area of 1.3 Vcore 1.22 IMC for 3.8 - But don't take my word for it! You gotta do stress tests and find what works for your specific set up)

Yeah my rams are running at 1600 with 8-8-8-24 timings with 1.65v as specified by corsair dominator under x.m.p profile.
my rams model no. is CMP6GX3M3A1600C8!
and yes i hv disabled all these settings p.s xtreme phase full power mode is enable too. llc is enable.
and voltage are not jumping in cpu-z. checked it just now too.

Sir dont consider me that noob! i hv read many reviews and guides before doing overclocking. and i hv tried stabling my pc at 3.6ghz with 1.3vcore and lower imc voltages.
it starts but it dont pass the stability tests. unexpected shutdowns blue screens and errors in torture tests comes.
i m stress testing with prime95 and linX!

That is the only reason i hv post in separate thread. i think i m doing something wrong with my rams.
need guides for that.

Yeah im worried abt that too. these are way to high then the other ppl using with the same hardware.
but i m not getting it stable with lower setting. do i hv a bad intel chip here.

waiting for everyone's opinions! :)

Ok guys! i hv found one more working setting for it!

Using [X.M.P] Setting: 3.611Mhz
ratio: 18
blck: 200
vcore: 1.275
IMC: 1.275
Dram: 1.65
pll: auto
pch: auto

still it is high! but what i hv figured out it! that it is my RAM!
when ever i go lower then 1.275 with imc.. it gives me BSOD with 0x00000124 error!
and i m not able to go lower than 1.275 with vcore too. its gives errors in linX and prime95!

so what do you guys think. is it my ram requiring more voltages to operate.

memtest86+ is a small application you download and put on a flash drive. Then reboot your computer and boot from the flash drive to start memtest. Read the readme to see how to run the tests. But basically it'll run some memory intensive computation and if your memory is bad it'll error out and memtest will tell you. Its good for diagnosing bad memory.

When overclocking the CPU you're supposed to underclock the RAM to rule out it causing issues. Set the RAM to 8x and leave the timings alone and get your CPU OCed. Then go back to 1600mhz RAM and if there's any instabilities set the voltage up a notch to 1.66V... Assuming you have all the RAM's timings set to their rated speeds and that it's 1.65V RAM, if 1.66V doesn't fix it then you probably have a bad RAM chip.

Feeling embarrassed now! should hv googled it! i thought it something to do with hardware myself.
btw thanks for replying. knowledge is great wealth to spread.

Thanks for informing! but is it better than linX! i m using linX and i think its pretty good too.
DOS always scares me : dunno where is scared smiley: btw i will try it as soon as i get my hands on my USB! misplaced it :)
but is linX gud for time-being? i m thinking to test my pc with IBT now! many ppl are recommending it! for Fast Stability checking and prime95 for longer times.

Thanks for replying! There is no such thing as 8x in my bios for ram settings (See for MY BIOS here)

can u explain it according to my bios what should i do to ram to get my pc stable at 4.0ghz!
btw right now i m using x.m.p settings for ram which set my ram to 1600mhz and timings to 8-8-8-24 at 1.65v with imc to 1.2 if everything is auto.(Means no overclocking as my proc is 2.66 it also sets it to 160*17 to make my pc run at 2.720 somewhere near it to make it stable.) when i overclock my pc to 3.6ghz i hv to raise vcore to 1.275 and imc to 1.275 also to make it stable with stress tests.

UPDATE 2 ADDED IN THE FIRST POST

Depending on the boost level, it will be able to give a different voltage. I tried using both settings and with turbo on, LLC off, I dropped about 4C compared to LLC on. The only thing is you will have to set the Vcore a bit higher with LLC off because of the droop - but since it drops under load it's ok.

As for IMC, personally I keep it around 0.1V less than my Vcore under load. Keep in mind that IMC and Vcore work together for stability, and also, IMC has to be at MOST 0.5V LESS than your DRAM voltage. So with 1.65V DRAM, IMC should be 1.15V or higher.

And finally I'm curious what temps you're getting under load?

Oh and about your stress programs - Intel Burn Test and LinX are basically the same thing and are very good. If you use LOW stress settings it will stress the CPU the most - I do 20 passes at that setting. Then on Very High stress (or as high as you can set it) it will stress RAM a lot more, so I do usually 10 passes at that setting (a lot slower). Memtest86+ is a bit different as it will fully test your RAM for errors - and only the RAM. If you're having this much issue overclocking and the RAM is to blame, this program will find it. Personally I just burned it to DVD and boot off that to run it.

Now thats the kind of answer i was waiting for!

got your pt. abt dram frequency! 2moro i m gonna try with manual settings!
but if i start with 160 bclk it will gimme most 160*21: 3.360GHZ! i need atleast 3.6ghz!

Now i m gonna show u what i hv tested with temps (tested with linX and prime95, Prime95 blend test temp are always lower then the linX all available memory test by a factor of 4 -6C)
:its in this format:
bclk x ratio | Vcore | IMC | Dram | PLL | PCH| linX temp
For 3.6 i hv tested these voltages:
200 x 18 | 1.350 | 1.3000 | 1.65 | A | A | 74-75 A=Auto
200 x 18 | 1.325 | 1.2750 | 1.65 | A | A | 70-71
200 x 18 | 1.300 | 1.2750 | 1.65 | A | A | 67-69
200 x 18 | 1.275 | 1.2750 | 1.65 | A | A | 66-68 Using this setting currently for 3.6ghz
200 x 18 | 1.275 | 1.2625 | 1.65 | A | A | 66-68 Unstable in linX
For 3.8 i hv tested these voltages:
190 x 20 | 1.375 | 1.3000 | 1.65 | 1.9 | A | 78-81
200 x 19 | 1.375 | 1.3000 | 1.65 | 1.9 | A | 78-81 switched to 200 x 19 coz above setting underclocks my ram
200 x 19 | 1.350 | 1.3000 | 1.65 | 1.9 | A | 72-74
200 x 19 | 1.350 | 1.2875 | 1.65 | 1.9 | A | 72-74
for 3.2 i m using this Setting:
160 x 20 | Auto | 1.2 | 1.65 | A | A | 58-60

now my point is when everything is auto nothing is overclocked my proc runs at 2.6GHZ and rams runs at 1333mhz
when i turn on xmp profile it automatically activates these settings which means my ram require 1.2 IMC with 1.65v of dram to operate at cl8!
160*17 | Auto | 1.2 | 1.65 | A | A | 48-50
How i can get up to 4.0ghz!
will try going 4 2moro with all Manual Settings:) peace

Well, about 160 base clock, it's low enough to use turbo boost so your max 4 core speed is 160x21, but a single core will boost up to 160x24. Why do you need 3.8ghz?

Also IMC isn't directly related to DRAM so much as Base Clock. As long as you're within the 0.5V rule I mentioned above, you should be ok.

FYI I think my 4ghz settings are 1.32V Vcore (LLC on) 1.27 IMC, so definitely your chip seems has some issues there. It might not like 4ghz.

I m starting to think the same too... i need 3.6 | 3.8 | 4.0 for some benchmarking. otherwise For Gaming!

question: if i use 200 bclk does it mean overclocking my ram also even if i select 8x in dram frequency for 1600mhz!
i always give 1.65v to dram! when i use 160 bclk its 160 x 10: 1600 and when 200 bclk its 200 x 8 : 1600mhz with 8-8-8-24 timings, Do they mean the same?
will it help in overclocking if i try with manual settings and keep the timings 9-9-9-24?
p.s can you tell me your 4ghz settings or your current settings in above post format! it will clear alot of things for me. whts ur dram frequency and timings?

Waiting for reply!
